There were many benefits to wearing chainmail hauberk for protection: it was flexible, easy to fix, easy to make, and surprisingly effective in protecting against cuts and slashes. Although it was very heavy and difficult to wear, chainmail remained popular until around the 15th century.
In the Middle Ages, the shirt known as a hauberk was made of chain mail, and it provided a relatively lightweight alternative to hard, heavy plate armour. Sometimes chain mail is just called mail,

Fits great and is very lightweight compared to my steel butted chainmail. It’s exactly what I expected. It’s worth noting a couple of the little nubs have fallen off but I’ve never had riveted mail before so I’m guessing that’s pretty normal. The seller included some spare links, though, so that should help address and small repair needs that could come up.
